Spring Racing Style for Mumma's with Children

Spring Racing Carnival in Melbourne is one of the biggest fashion events of the year. All the designers come out above and beyond with gorgeous dresses, skirts, tops and jumpsuits. The milliners produce some amazing head pieces and the choice of shoes is endless. It is so hard to decide on just one.

Before having my girls when dressing for the races I didn't have anything to consider except looking the best I could. Now with having children it's totally different. I mean, I still want to look the best I can but there are things I now need to consider.

I was asked to be a part of The Chadstone Fashion Stakes - Kids Classic Heats as a guest/judge with fellow boys blogger Carla Rodan founder Styling The Tribe and her three boys. We both gave some of our tips for dressing for the races when having children.

First point I now consider is comfort not only with my outfit but with my shoes and accessories. Pictured I chose this gorgeous dress from Willow. For me it ticked all the right boxes. The fabric was soft for movement, especially when you have little people grabbing at your leg or sitting on your lap.  The neckline was high enough that if I lifted Giselle my top wasn't going to reveal my breast.  Carla wore a beautiful jumpsuit from Camilla with consideration of the same points teamed with a fresh flower head piece from Floral Accent.

With my shoes I opted for a classic pump from Nine West. I love the comfort of their shoes and a pump gives me the support and height that I need to last all day. Wedges would also be a great option especially if you are on the grass area at the races. When looking for head wear again consider a piece that's easy. I like to keep my hair away from my face with the children and especially if I'm bending down a lot. I chose a classic headband style from David Jones.

My days of wearing thin strap, tight or short dresses with sky high strappy heels whilst the children are young are a thing of the past. Comfort and practicality are my priority so I can have a great day at the races with my children and still looking the best I can.

If you are heading to Melbourne during Spring Carnival be sure to head to the races for a great family fun day out. You won't be disappointed especially if you are prepared.

Happy punting till next time.
